Wall Street 2022

1. The Ticker – 40/30cm, oil on cardboard, 2022

The secret of New York’s financial success over the past two centuries has been its ability to communicate information quickly and accurately. Thomas Edison’s stock ticker was a milestone in this technical evolution. Edison was just 21 years old and using Morse code for Western Union when he invented the Universal Stock Ticker, the first reliable high-speed quotation machine. The 5,000 tickers he sold over the next few years allowed Edison to finance his own laboratories in New Jersey. With the money from the ticker, Edison invented the light bulb, the phonograph, and the video camera. (Wikipedia)

4. Wall Street Entrance – 40/30cm, oil on cardboard, 2022

The work shows the facades of buildings in the Wall Street District aligned with Broadway. Two can distinguish the imposing Equitable Building (partially) – on the left and One Wall Street – on the right. Also in a more central position and lower high, is the historic building The American Surety Building(1896). In relation to the height of these edifices, Wall Street looks like an unimportant, rather narrow street – an alley. Imaginarily the entrance to the street of the great American banks is through the door of a gigantic vault. Its shape was taken from photographs of vaults located in the district itself. The painting also shows the upper parts of some buildings that start to appear on Wall Street starting from Trinity Church.

13. Bitcoin and Dollar – 40/30cm, oil on cardboard, 2022

The painting brings together in the same composition the American currency and what is supposed to be the future currency of the world – the Bitcoin. The scene, featuring symbolic architectural and financial elements, takes place at a historic intersection in Manhattan: Wall Street, Nassau Street, and Broad Street. It is home to important institutions of American finance dating back many decades, such as Federal Hall, J.P. Morgan and the New York Stock Exchange. The symbols of the two mentioned currencies are represented enlarged and are supported by the NY Stock Exchange and the banking institution J.P.Morgan. The atmosphere is sunny, calm, a sign of financial stability, in contrast to the great crises that seriously shook the street area. Federal Hall and the George Washington Monument appear in another work.
